OK, one of the developers here at National Instruments likes to celebrate Christmas each year by using our stuff (NI DAQ and Compact DAQ) to create a cool Christmas display around his cube. This one is something similar to a big flashy version of Guitar Hero using NI DAQ, a open source piece of software called Frets on Fire, and Python.

Using PXI Express high-bandwidth bus, Patrick (NI R&D) streams video from a DVD player to a new NI RAID array for storage to disk. He then used PXI Express again to read that data out to his monitor. NI Tivo anyone?
