These are some selections from the Cortez Obon 2008 on July 7 at the Cortez Buddist Church. Dancers work during the entire week preparing at the end of the community Gakko (Japanese school) and become teachers for the rest of the audience who are invited to join and learn the dances as well.

Yesterday we drove deep into the mountains to visit a 500 year old village that has been maintained and continues to be lived in. It is a National Heritage World Protected Site and worth visiting.
This is the first of a four part series.
The house is empty, and everyone has left. The relatives are on their way home through the night to avoid the traffic. Obon 2007 has come to a close. Enjoy the rest of the week.
