Stagmomantis californica female laying her first ootheca. This was recorded in 30 second segments, all connected together, and made 10 times faster. The whole process took about 3 hours. The ootheca contains probably 100-200 eggs.

This is a video of a praying mantis egg in the process of hatching. Anywhere from 50 to 200 nymphs (baby mantis') emerge from each ootheca, but sadly, nature is cruel and only 10% or less will survive to adulthood.
The egg sac or ootheca was produced by the female praying mantis on 5th Sept. After 18 days, the praying mantis nymphs had moulted and emerged from the ootheca.

My relatively new, and still thin T. blondi eats the second mouse, which the Pyxie didn't want. Not the typical feeding, I usually use roaches, but this spider could use the extra bulk right now. There's also a roach ootheca lying in there from a previous feeding, would have been ejected prematurely when the roach was caught, it didn't hatch.
