Saved the best for last from that infamous September 11, 1982 broadcast of "Texaco Star Theater: Opening Night," a 90 minute variety special saluting American musical theater on NBC.
In seven minutes, Sammy and Carol sing a medley of just about every show tune imaginable. It's like being at happy hour in Marie's Crisis and Don't Tell Mama!
This is part of the Andy Williams Show's Christmas episode, airing on December 20th, 1962. One of the guests was Bette Davis, who appears with big fanfare to sing "Just Turn me Loose on Broadway" (From TWO'S COMPANY) and then "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" (she sang "I Know An Old Woman Who Swallowed A Fly" later in the show with the New Christie Minstrels)
Enjoy!
Yes, it's another video from that September 11, 1982 broadcast of "Texaco Star Theater: Opening Night," a 90 minute variety special saluting American musical theater on NBC.
This one is from the cast of "A Chorus Line" that was playing on Broadway at the time (1982) singing a medley of "What I Did For Love" and "One"
Hear and see "Dreamgirls" the way it should be done! This performance of Debbie Allen singing songs from "Dreamgirls" is from a 1982 TV Special called "Texaco: Opening Night"
Happy Halloween, folks! Was told that that is Caterina Valente, who along with Chita and Carol is singing "I Enjoy Being A Girl" ala Morticia (and in three part Andrews Sisters harmony no less!). If memory serves, the grave digger is Boris Karloff. And I think the show that it's from is THE ENTERTAINERS
Here's a clip of Goldie Hawn singing the title song from the movie "Star" (originally performed by Julie Andrews). It's from a Dean Martin Show and it's fun to see her sing and dance (and have some different lyrics for the song). The glitch in the video...not so fun
I think this is from a Steve Allen show which had Gloria Swanson presenting a number from the musical version of Sunset Boulevard she was developing (before Paramount yanked the rights from her)
Here's another oddity. The Andrews Sisters singing a mash of "Got a Lot of Living to Do" (from BYE BYE BIRDIE) and "Favorite Things" (From SOUND OF MUSIC). All this and motorcycles too...
It's from one of the Dean Martin Shows, btw
Yet another video from that September 11, 1982 broadcast of "Texaco Star Theater: Opening Night," a 90 minute variety special saluting American musical theater on NBC.
This one's a real gem. Carol Burnett singing "Adelaide's Lament" from Frank Loesser's classic musical "Guys and Dolls."
Makes you wish she had done it on stage.
Here's a clip from "Julie and Carol: Together Again," a TV special Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett did in 1989. How to describe it..."two grand dames rapping about getting old while wearing Bob Mackie Does M C Hammer Hobo Garb" just about does it!
In honor of that fact that Yvonne De Carlo is no longer 'still here,' here is a clip of her performing her signature song from Stephen Sondheim's "Follies." The clip is from a Hollywood Bowl concert she did (and damn the person who accidently taped over a few seconds with a telathon!)
Here's a clip from "Julie and Carol: Together Again." Since this is a TV special from the 80s (1989 to be exact) you can imagine what it contains...that's right! A medley of tunes from the 70s and 80s! See Carol sing "Memory" from Cats as if she were a bride! Watch in disbelief as Julie channels her inner Michael Jackson!
