NASA performed a series of high power wireless long distance transmission tests to proof of concept wireless energy transmission through the air. Their test achieved power transmission at better than 75% efficency over distance of a 1 mile and quarter.
The first launch of the Ariane 5 ECA on 11 December 2002 was aborted soon after launch due to a problem with the nozzle of the Vulcain 2 engine. Since then changes have been made to the nozzle and numerous tests carried out by Snecma, the maker of the engine, to ensure that the qualification flight at the beginning of 2005 will be a success.
