It is a quiet monday morning during the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas, when all of a sudden an air raid signal goes off in the stadium! We don't know if its the Japanese or the Indians, but eventually order is restored to the scene and all becomes crystal clear.. sorta.
Fox Sports Northwest broadcast this piece on the Alaska Goldpanners on the 11th of July in 2006. It chronicles the team, the league, the midnight sun game and more. Great interviews with the ballplayers.
Its possible that Mike Lissman intentionally dropped the ball in left field, in order to get the play that resulted. After looking at it a few times, it doesn't really seem like it to me.. but what is stopping a guy from doing this each time the situation develops?
League game vs. the Kenai Peninsula Oilers in 2004. Difficult to explain this one... I just know that it feels good watching the visiting team act like complete idiots.
This is it... the infamous "angle of the sun delay" game. One of the most remarkable game stoppages in the history of baseball. We knew that Alaska was filled with hazards and unique problems... but is the sun at 10:30 p.m. really a problem? You make the call..
This 2006 Alaska Goldpanner has delivered a collegiate career which is absolutely one of the best there ever was. On May 31st, he won the national championship for Ed Cheff and the Lewis-Clark State Warriors by hitting three home runs in the championship game -- including a grand slam.
Cameron Blair, Most Valuable Player of the 2004 Alaska Goldpanners, and ABL Player of the Year, has a chance to reach third from first on a single to left. The ruling on the play at third is challenged. What do you think?
What makes this play even more impressive is the fact that Cameron had his right nipple pierced just two days prior!
This is the P B S series done by Ken Burn called Baseball. The Goldpanners provided a bunch of materials for the series, and this is the sum of what they used. Pretty cool, though.
