Aug. 24 - The U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied along with the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 after a surprise jump in new home sales helped investors feel better about the housing sector. The Dow rallied 142 points to 13,378. The S&P 500 rose 16 points to 1,479. The Nasdaq gained 34 points to 2,576. Crude oil prices rallied.

Jan. 10 - U.S. stocks enjoyed their strongest two-day rally of 2008 after reports Bank of America is in serious talks to buy Countrywide Financial. The Dow jumped 117 points to 12,853. The S&P 500 rose 11 points to 1,420. The Nasdaq gained 13 points to 2,488.
