In the opening stage of Rally 1000 Lakes 1997 in the heart of Jyväskylä a Danish driver Karsten Rikhardt driving a GroupN Mitsubishi tried to take the corner at the end of a long straight way too fast, went off the road and hit a group of spectators. One spectator died and a lot of others were injured.
