Nina Simone hated being categorised -- she was a High Priestess of Soulsinger, the High Priestess of Soul, a classical pianist and a civil rights activist. She died in 2003, leaving a remarkable musical and political legacy. Tim Sebastian met her in 1999 where, among many other topics, she spoke of her friendship with Martin Luther King.
