This is from the Mt. Fuji jazz fest - August, 1986... Also with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams. Sorry it cuts off at 10 minutes, but that's all YouTube will allow. Also, this came off a VHS tape with some tracking problems but is still pretty watchable. You can see part 2 at http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=qtLe2sne0 fI
With Art Blakey and the All Star Jazz Messengers, 1984. (Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Walter Davis Jr, Buster Williams)
Hub works up to and holds a spectacular high note at the end - it's a must-see.
CLASSIC FREDDIE! This is from 1962 with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. The rest of the band is Wayne Shorter, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, and Reggie Workman. Freddie was just 24 here, and plays his ass off!
This video was up here a while back but seems to be gone now so here it is again. This seems like some kind of V.S.O.P. reunion with Joe Hen on sax instead of Wayne. Great playing all around. Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass, Tony Williams on drums.
Just a quick clip of the guys talking down charts and goofing around at the rehearsal for the 1984 All Star Messengers Concert. The cats are Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Buster Williams, Walter Davis Jr. and the man himself.
This is from the same video as the Blues Minor clip - in Messina, Sicily, 1987 with Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Sonny Fortune. Freddie displays some amazing high note stamina here.
I filmed this at Smalls in NYC, June 29th 2006. Miguel is with Bruce Barth, piano; Doug Weiss, bass; Jason Marsalis, drums. Sorry about the dark video - the solo is totally badass though.
